Change bags – what seemed like a completely inane subject has recently become the focus of all my spare attention. In my pragmatic approach to baby paraphernalia when pregnant (which is quickly being replaced with emotional purchasing!) I was certain that expensive change bags were simply a money making gimmick especially those available from pram manufacturers – Bugaboo wanted nearly £100 for a glorified messenger bag!
I opted instead to take advantage of the great free change bag from Boots when you sign up to their parenting club http://www.boots.com/en/Mother-Baby/Parenting-Club/
I must say that it’s a brilliant bag for new Mums and is perfect for the job. However there’s just one issue: Boo doesn’t travel light. It was ok when she was newborn, with change and feed essentials plus a spare vest and baby grow we were good to go, however now that she’s positively a tweenie (ok not quite!) there’s so much more to factor in; toys, select pieces from Boo’s wardrobe, teething soothers; in fact you name it and I’m pretty sure it will have passed the zip of our change bag at some point!
Ok I thought, time for a new change bag, nice and simple – but then this is mummyandboo so nothing is simple. I don’t like anything that looks like a change bag.
Just because it’s for Boo doesn’t mean that it should lack the basic fundamentals of a good handbag: classic design, good quality leather and big enough to fit the kitchen sink in (so the last one is perhaps, personal to me)
Boo is too young for a mulberry – or is she? Plus I’m not too sure how baby sick would fare on the plated clasp! But I’m still struggling to find a suitable change bag that doesn’t scream baby!
Would love to hear your suggestions as to what should be Boo’s first handbag, ahem I mean change bag.

Check out http://www.sugarjack.com, I got the Lily in burnt orange, its amazing. I didn’t want to give up a lush handbag, its amazing ……………………………. x
can’t believe I said amazing twice! can I replace one of them with Fab! x
get one both can handle. a igbrht pink one a frilly one with a dad is a little odd. yet one with craftsmen tool logos or beer logos is a bit odd for a women.ushualy ones that look like back packs are universal., We have one that style for our 3 boys.it makes no sense to get two bags and have each parent put their own baby stuff in it. Maybe if one is a back up for like in the car and one is one you bring with you in the mall or store or where ever it is you go. Hopefully you are both treating the child the same, and dont have two different typs of meds, creams or diapers.good luck
Hiya, ah changing bags and bags in general… my favourite subject! I wrote about 4 highly-recommended brands a little while ago, Sugarjack included, aren’t their bags just gorgeous? I saw them “in the leather” a little while ago at the Earls Court Baby Show and they are just amazing.
