Florida is a fantastic holiday destination for families – especially in the summer. No doubt your kids will be pestering you to go to some of the famous places like Disneyworld and the Universal Studios in Orlando. If Florida is on the horizon, either this summer or the next, then here are a few things you should know before you travel:
It Gets Very Humid
Florida is known as The Sunshine State, largely because of its sunny climate. When you go there in summer, you better be prepared for some hot weather. The sun tends to shine all day long, for many months in a row. Temperatures can get into mid-to-high 30’s (we’re talking Celsius here), but the main thing to consider is the humidity. As well as being hot, it’s incredibly humid here, which makes the weather a little bit harder to bear – particularly if you’re not used to it. Keep this in mind, pack for hot/humid weather, and bring along some small portable fans to help you cool off during the day.
Orlando Isn’t The Only Place To Stay
Most families choose to visit Florida because of Orlando. As already mentioned, it’s home to some of the most popular places to take children. However, it’s not the only place you can bring your family in this massive state. Tampa is another city that offers plenty of great things to do for the whole family. It’s got plenty of high-quality family-friendly hotels, like the Tampa Marriott Westshore, which are usually in great locations. As well as this, it’s home to a massive water park, a huge aquarium, and even a zoo! So, if you’re considering going to Florida in the summer, then think about showing Tampa some love for a couple of days.
You Can Get Massive Parking Fines
The whole state of Florida is known for having quite strict parking laws. As a general rule, if you see a parking space, then it probably costs money. Thankfully, if you’re booked to go to some of the amusement parks like Disney World, then parking gets included in the costs. But, for parking spaces on the streets, you’ll need to pay. Always check for parking metres before you settle into a spot, as you don’t want to end up with a massive fine.
It’s Full Of Natural Wildlife
One of my favourite things about Florida is the way many of its regions are contrasted. Some are busy cities full of urban life, and then you have more swampy and forest areas full of natural wildlife. Keep your eyes open, and you might just spot an alligator – the state is famous for them! There are loads of other wildlife you can spot during your trip, and it’s well worth keeping your wits about you just in case you wander into alligator territory by mistake.
You need to know these four things before you book your trip to Florida. They’ll help you plan the trip better, and be more prepared for what lies ahead.
