First School Week of 2015: The Little Things

I’ve often heard parents say how the holidays are never long enough and if I’m honest I didn’t really know what they were on about; working from home means that I crave a quiet house!

This week I learnt that they were absolutely right; Boo had an inset day on Monday, the perfect excuse to take her brand spanking new bike out to the park. We bumped into one of her school friends and it was lovely to see them so excited and sharing their news with each other as they ran up and down the muddy slopes.

Monday was also when we took our Christmas decorations down – as much as it probably would have been easier and less messy to do it by myself I took my Mum’s advice that it’s important to involve Boo as it teaches her about why things end and packing everything away for next year is a big part of understanding Christmas . She was right, we had a lovely conversation about keeping things safe until next year and kissed the decoration bag, oh so lovely.

This week also saw us do lots of baking for the freezer. Boo is one of those girls who loves to don an apron and is an eager banana masher! Yesterday we made jelly – I know this doesn’t sound like much but it was a lovely end to Boo’s first week back; the perfect reminder that it’s the little things that really do matter.

It’s been a lovely start to the year, stripping back to basics when it comes to joy seeking and already I’ve been pleasantly reminded how much fun you can have doing pretty much nothing with a child.

How’s your first school week of 2015? How have you found the joy in the little things so far?

Aw lovely post! I totally get what you mean. My little boy started school in september and people used to say oh the holidays go by to quickly and I used to think oh really I love a quiet house but they were right! I love spending time with him in the holidays and they do go by so quickly.

Oh she is so cute on her bike! LP is loving being back at school but I love it when she’s home again in the afternoons! I love those hours of quiet but I miss her too. Your jelly looks yum! x

I love the holidays but I do love when they go back to school. I think it’s because we tend to try and cram a lot in to our holidays so by the end, we’re all ready for normality to return x x

We had an extra day off this years due to a broken boiler, lucky it was my day off and we enjoyed a lovely afternoon at the sea life centre.

I still have my son at home in the afternoons so the two hours in the morning I have alone go very quickly! I can’t believe how quickly this week has gone. It will be February half term before we know it!

I am amazed at how quickly kids pick up on certain skills, my 9yr old nephew is a whizz with the ipad, much more so than even I am!
