This Girl Can

There’s a new YouTube video that Boo and I can’t stop watching – This Girl Can is a national campaign developed by Sports England to celebrate active women, whatever their level. We saw it for the first time last week and I was immediately struck at just how true it is.

“This Girl Can is here to inspire women to wiggle, jiggle, move and prove that judgement is a barrier that can be overcome.” – This Girl Can

I think it being set to Missy Elliot’s Get Your Freak On – one of my all time favourite songs, just adds to how much I love this video; trust me I look pretty freaky after 45 minutes of spin – not to mention saddle sore, OUCH!

This Girl Can - Damn Right I Look Hot

#operationyummymummy has taught me that being active is not pretty – well for me at least it isn’t – but it’s something I’ve come to embrace; you only have to see my Instagram feed to see that I’m no stranger to the beetroot look after spin or that I’m constantly in search for the perfect sports bra that will reduce major bounce, but still also knowing that yes my booty jiggles, and do you know what… I’m ok with that. I have the confidence to enjoy the gym and exercise but for many girls and women it can be a barrier.

This Girl Can

I love how Boo thinks it’s funny that I’m dripping with sweat when I pick her up from crèche at the gym or that I’m so exhausted that I lay down on the hall floor once we’re home, she’s partial to joining in with planking and is a pro when it comes to squats – that’s my girl!

A new year brings new beginnings and while I won’t be making any resolutions , I do think it’s the perfect opportunity to start the year strong and to act as a role model for the younger generation – yes I sweat, and swear (a lot), I struggle, I don’t always succeed but I’m a girl (and woman) who can and when it comes to setting an example for Boo, I’m happy with that.

It’s a great advert and shows that body shape or fitness levels are not a barrier to exercising

Such an inspiring advert, I’d not seen it before. I think it is important to show young girls that you can exercise no matter what shape you are. It’s great that you are showing your daughter that it is normal to exercise and enjoy it 🙂

Oh…I am loving this. I was sometimes put off by the fact that i had to strip off when going to a gym actually. we should all forget about that and be active,
