It’s no secret that we crave sunnier climates so when the opportunity for a last minute trip to Alicante mixing business and pleasure came up we jumped at the chance and on the plane very early on Saturday 30th May. There’s something about heading for the airport when it’s raining that makes you even more excited! We were joined by my good friend, Charlotte and her daughter, Poppy who along with Boo are the minis.
We stayed just outside of Alicante along the coast and within a couple of hours Boo and her friend were making themselves at home in the pool. Being self catering never normally appeals to me (I mean who doesn’t like breakfast in bed when you’re on holiday!) however holidaying with two under 5s meant that it worked really well. Me and Boo visit Spain regularly so we felt home at the local supermarket – jamon anyone?
We were out there for 10 days – I’ve never been away for so long with Boo and if I’m being completely honest I was slightly worried that it would maybe be too long, but I was completely wrong, the girls got themselves into the holiday groove and being away for more than a week allowed us to get into a routine – a laid back one!
I was really lucky to have finished my work commitments within the first few days – who knew that scorching sunshine was a productivity booster and soon enough I was jumping in the pool with the girls. Our holiday was just what we needed, a change of scene with added sun and fun.
And then on day five, everything changed – Boo was looking over the front wall and over balanced, despite only falling approximately a metre she was in a bad way. I knew it was serious from all the blood, luckily the Torrevieja Hospital was only a few kilometers away. I have never been more grateful for my conversational Spanish – the care Boo received was second to none and after a fair few x-rays we were told that Boo luckily hadn’t fractured her skull but had in fact broken both her radius and ulna in her right arm. I felt helpless and angry: why did it have to happen to Boo, she’s been through enough with her health and is always so resilient, she’s been through so much. SO late on the Thursday evening I brought my baby back to our home for the holiday, cut, bruised, broken boned and did what I knew best – laid with her in my arms all night.
I fully expected for Boo to not leave the bed the next day but in true Boo fashion she was back in the pool within a day, cast and protective cover and all!
Apart from a few modifications, our holiday carried on as normal and reminded me just how lucky we are to spend such golden time together.
Fast forward to the 11th and it was time for us to return to the UK, yes it may be our home but somewhere much sunnier has our hearts; somehow palm trees make everything that bit better. I have a feeling this won’t be the last adventure in 2015 for Mummy and Boo.
Sounds like she has the right attitude to make the best of difficult situations. Hope she’s recovering well.

I’m so sorry that your holiday had such a negative part – it looks idyllic apart from the broken arm! Such a shame 🙁 x

Poor Boo! My grandparents-in-law live near Alicante so I know exactly what the Spanish hospitals are like.

Oh poor little thing. Kids are so resilient though aren’t they? And the accident aside it looks like you’ve had a great time.
bless her such an easy accident to happen, when you wrote about holding her in your arms all night I almost welled up. It’s amazing that protectiveness you feel towards your kids isn’t it. Apart from that though it looks like you had a fab time! x

It looked like a beautiful holiday and such a shame that poor Boo broke her arm! Such a little trooper not letting it affect her though! It’s amazing how well children cope with things.
Ahh that pool looks so good! xx
